I followed the Memphis Sheiks, blues musicians extraordinaire, down to Mississippi to photograph an album cover. Delta Joe Sanders and I have collaborated on several album covers for his music, and he's seriously one of the best at making the blues music that derived from the Southern culture and inspired everyone from The Rolling Stones to Dylan to Bonnie Raitt. So Delta Joe took me down to this old abandoned juke joint which must have hosted thousands of people who came in to hear the blues musicians sing about the troubles they all were feeling, and shrug off some of those troubles through a combination of sweet music and cold beer. These are the pictures, shot on film in the old way, just like I imagined the music to be.
